Master this four part framework to make better agreements and become a better boss

Nov 18, 2023

When your team members, or your boss for that matter, aren't meeting your expectations it can be incredibly disappointing, frustrating and disheartening...who am I kidding, down right infuriating!

It creates a world of pain as you wonder how to get things back on track.

My strong suggestion is to minimise this type of disappointment by making better agreements. As Brene Brown would put it: "Clear is Kind, Unclear is unkind."

My suspicion is that you aren't doing this already because in some ways it's easier not to have agreements.

Or perhaps you don't trust other people to stick to them.

Or perhaps you don't trust yourself to stick to them.

Perhaps you don't want to seem bossy or bitchy by making agreements.

Or perhaps things feel so uncertain right now that you wouldn't even know how to go about making an agreement.

But when you master the art of making agreements things begin to change.

You and your team can begin to work faster and smarter because you know the boundaries of what you're doing and how.

You can trust that you're team will escalate things to you appropriately because you've agreed those communication and escalation protocols in advance.

Team members will be more committed to doing the things that have been agreed because they were consulted and they actually agreed, rather than receiving a vague request or a forceful decree.

You will have better accountability and feedback conversations because it feels and sounds very different to say "we agreed to this, what happened?" than it does to say "I expected x,y,z, why didn't it happen?"

Sounds good right?

In this video I cover the simple four part framework that will help you make better agreements:

It is for those of you who are new to line management or those who feel like they're doing a terrible job as a manager and want help to turn their team around.

Its a year long deep dive into how to find your grounded, healthy self as a manager so that you can manage your team and yourself with that calm, grounded, self-assurance that you see in other people and wonder how they do it.

My take on it is that most people struggle to be great managers because they're afraid: of disappointment, of screwing it up, of upsetting people, or conflict, of rejection, of criticism...the list could go on.

And I believe that the way to the other side of any of those fears is via your grounded, healthy self who knows what the right thing to do is and is courageous enough to do it, even when it feels hard.

So in the new programme I will teach you the skills, strategy and mindset to being a great manager.

We will replace uncertainty and doubt with integrity and courage.

I'm going to be opening the enrolment for a beta version of the new programme very soon at an incredibly reduced price. If you're interested in becoming one of the first to join then sign up here: https://www.fionabicket.co.uk/grounded-manager-expression-of-interest
