Progression in Professional Services can be a bit of a mystery. I certainly remember times in my HE career when I was left wondering, "I'm doing all this work but my senior manager doesn't think I'm ready for promotion. What more do I need to do?"
Experience and perspective (and possibly age), plus some deep analysis has helped me to see, there's a hidden curriculum to progression. It's the skills, behaviours and mindset shifts that regrading and recruitment panels look for but are never written down. They're a sort of assumed wisdom amongst senior colleagues but I don't think they should be hidden any longer. That’s what I call the Hidden Curriculum of Progression.
